Riviera launches new Platinum Edition Sport Yachts Three brilliant examples of pure elegance and exceptional luxury

The owner of Australia’s premium luxury motor yacht builder, Rodney Longhurst not only stands with exceptional pride behind his brand’s exquisitely-built motor yachts … he also skies behind them!

The occasion, early yesterday, was the unveiling of Riviera’s stunning new Platinum Edition Sport Yachts to awaiting cameras ahead of their premiere at Sanctuary Cove International Boat Show [May 23-26].

Accompanying Mr Longhurst were Riviera’s International Sales Director Chris McCafferty and Dealer Relationship Manager Peter Welch in a spectacular run behind a new 6000 Sport Yacht bearing the Platinum Edition livery.

As a passionate water-sportsman, Mr Longhurst immerses himself into the design and development process working closely with the highly-credentialed design team to ensure they meet Riviera’s exacting standards, so it was only fitting that he played a special role in flying the Australian flag on behalf of the 600-plus team at Riviera.

Included in the new Platinum Edition range are the 4800, 5400 and 6000 Sport Yachts, each a shining example of world-class style, sophistication and elegance.

“It is a wonderful celebration of the inspired and time-proven design of our Sport Yacht range around the world. Over the past 14 years, Riviera has launched over 560 Sport Yachts ” Mr Longhurst explained.

“With the Platinum Edition Sport Yachts, you will see the unmistakable addition of hardtops and targa arches presented in Riviera Platinum Silver, along with a silver/grey upholstered sunbed on the foredeck. Electronic arrays, air vents and boot tops are rendered in a stealth-like black finish.

“Their beauty also runs deep with a raft of premium, state-of-the-art features such as Sunbrella fabrics, high-gloss walnut timber cabinetry and trim, pure wool carpet underfoot in the staterooms and in-vogue lounges upholstered in soft-touch fabrics.”

Complementing the lounges are new Recaro sports helm seats with Alcantara inserts and contrasting diamond hand-stitching. Elsewhere are Sunbrella fabric headliners and wall linings, while bathroom flooring has a new luxe Corian finish.

Accommodation options for the Platinum Edition range from two staterooms with two bathrooms aboard the 4800 Series II to the option of two or three staterooms with two bathrooms onboard the 5400 up to three or four staterooms with three bathrooms and impressive layout options on the flagship 6000.

Riviera 4800 Sport Yacht Series II – Platinum Edition

Embodying the essence of the Platinum Edition is the 4800 Sport Yacht. Indeed, so significant were the model refinements that Riviera has designated it a Series II.

Improving on an already very popular model, however, was no easy task. The original 4800 spent 12-months in design and development to optimise the aesthetics and space utilisation. The 4800 emerged from this process as a masterpiece in every sense, as intellectual as it is functional.

The Volvo Penta Inboard Propulsion System offers twin IPS800 (600hp) powerplants and IPS15 pods proved a perfect power partner and thus retained their place in the Platinum Edition. Quiet and sophisticated in their power delivery, they provide more than ample ‘sport’ when leaving port.

First of the new features is an extended swim platform with flowing curves to the outboard ends. It is the gateway to a generous garage that accommodates a 2.7-metre RIB with the help of guide rails and Muir winch.

Next on the features list is a cockpit wet bar including benchtop, refrigerator, icemaker, sink with folding tap and double electric BBQ, serviced by an extraction fan and fold-down lid.

Twin electric opening sunroofs (individually operated) fill the cockpit with light and fresh air. Slide back the stainless steel-framed glass door; open out the awning window and the cockpit flows into the saloon as one unified space. Step inside and you’re then welcomed by the walnut’s warmth and drawn in by circumambient views.

A saloon cocktail cabinet with bottle storage drawer and drawers for glass storage is another excellent addition to the vessel’s entertainment attributes. The galley is equipped for anything from a weekend to a week on the water, with the Platinum Edition featuring new solid-surface bench tops.

Further rewards are in store in the accommodation deck as floor space has been increased in the forward mater stateroom, along with a larger starboard hanging locker, three-drawer chest and 32-inch TV.

For a perfect night’s sleep, a king-size walk-around berth with innerspring mattress and storage under berth, including drawers and gas struts for easy access. The bed base is luxuriously finished in leather and fine cabinetry. A superbly appointed private bathroom completes the master suite. While hull windows either side of the bed bring in natural light and accent the outside views.

A warm and inviting second stateroom features twin-single beds to port that slide together to create a double and a further single bed to starboard. Continuous glass hull windows to both port and starboard feature opening port holes. This is a perfect stateroom for family or guests. A second bathroom forward of the guest stateroom also serves as the day head.

The Riviera 4800 Sport Yacht is ideal for cruising couples and young families in being easily managed yet exceptionally spacious – making it perfect for anything from Sunday brunch to a quiet week away.

Riviera 5400 Sport Yacht Platinum Edition

When launched to an admiring market, the 5400 Sport Yacht won immediate acclaim as an exciting single-level entertainer with intelligent and progressive design wedded to keel-to-wheel integration of its Volvo Penta Inboard Propulsion System.

Sleek lines, raked entry and a superyacht-like radar arch infuse the vessel with a sporting pedigree, attesting to a level of driving pleasure and refinement befitting its moniker.

Standard power for the Platinum Edition is a pair of Volvo Penta IPS 950 (725hp) diesels that deliver silky mid-range acceleration and an impressive top speed.

This yacht is a turn-key luxury sports package with everything needed for on-water relaxation, starting with aft facing seating under the awning that is the al fresco dining and socialising hub.

The new edition 5400 offers a new Riviera Platinum Silver wet bar including benchtop, refrigerator, icemaker, sink and two-plate electric barbecue.

Accommodation comprises either a three-cabin and two-bathroom layout or an optional two-cabin layout with lower lounge area. Owners enjoy a full-beam master stateroom, with exceptional headroom and airiness surrounding a king-size bed. Hull windows and opening portlights add to the sense of connectivity with the outdoor elements.

Riviera 6000 Sport Yacht Platinum Edition

“There’s an exuberance about this yacht, a sparkle and a presence that reflects her star quality. The 6000 is a world-class performer with a global vision and purpose,” commented Mr. Longhurst.

The Riviera 6000 Sport Yacht has been often said to be one of the prettiest Riviera yachts, and its Platinum Edition refinement under the perfectionist eyes of Mr Longhurst and the highly-regarded Riviera design team takes this popular yacht to another level.

Twin 10.8-litre IPS 950s (725hp) from Volvo Penta are housed in the 6000’s cleanly laid-out engineroom, a place where artistic form meets functionality, and they simply purr when the vessel is underway. Delivering a smooth and quiet ride when cruising, the 6000 accelerates briskly to a very sporty top speed.

The main deck hard top is extended to enhance the sleekness, while also integrating an electric sunroof. Sitting below, it’s cosy, cocooned and comfortable. Step inside the saloon, and the galley is located to port, now featuring waterfall galley benchtops with stainless steel sinks and mixer tap.

Glass skylights richly illuminate the aft area of the saloon, and a radar arch allows the sunroof to slide beneath. Forward is a sunroof that, with the addition of side-opening windows and aft awning window, creates a seamless indoor/outdoor world.

The starboard-side lounge now sees a centre seat base slide out to become an ottoman and includes a small fold-out timber table. The dining area lounge base is upholstered to give an opulent look and the seating in this area has been extended.

New-style Pompanette helm seats with Alcantara inserts and feature stitching are a glamorous feature of the helm station.

Moving below, you come to the atrium, a corridor filled with light to accentuate the crisp architectural look and feel. Accommodation layout options vary according to buyer preferences but include the option of a palatial “Presidential” master suite.

Throughout the yacht the list of refinements is subtle yet significant, showing considerable thought for the vessel’s overall user-friendliness.

For that final touch of Platinum, grey caulking is utilised in teak decks instead of the conventional black.

The highly efficient hull designs draw on both Volvo Penta and Riviera’s extensive experience with the Inboard Propulsion System (IPS) fitted to more than 700 Riviera vessels. From an engineering perspective, all Platinum Edition Sport Yachts have the ability to be gyro stabilised.
